Tooling Pin Assembly SMRT ™ Pin (Surface Mount Resettable Tooling)

United States Patent No. 5,395,099; by James Hall; March 7, 1995

Abstract

A tooling pin assembly (10) is mounted on a test platen (12) having a planar surface (12b) which supports a circuit board (16) under test. The tooling pin assembly (10) includes a locating pin (20) which engages the circuit board (16) to fix the relative position of predetermined test sites on the circuit board (16) and a lid assembly having probes (22) that contact these sites during testing when said circuit board (16) and a lid assembly are in correct alignment. Mounting means for the locating pin (20) enables the locating pin to be manually relocated to compensate for minor irregularities of test sites, or in the fixture, or both.

Top plate release mechanism

United States Patent No: 6,940,297 by James Hall; September 6, 2005

Abstract

A top plate release mechanism that comprises a sliding portion that forces locking tabs that are mounted in a mounting bracket to be dislocated to a releasing position, in order to allow a top plate to easily be removed from a probe plate assembly. The top plate release mechanism comprises biasing means to maintain the mechanism in a locked position until the sliding portion is moved. The top plate release mechanism may also comprise a locking feature that fixedly locks the release mechanism to prevent the locking tabs from prematurely returning to a locked position.

Device for testing surface mounted connectors

United States Patent No. 8,269,507; by James Hall; September 18, 2012

Abstract

This invention describes a device for testing a surface mounted connector using a test probe assembly that utilizes a vacuum to force the test wires and the test probe's wire array into intimate contact with the connector to be tested. The wires are directed through a wire module assembly and have a wide spacing at one end, and a narrow spacing corresponding to the spacing required for the specific units to be tested at the opposite end. The wires are kept in contact with the unit under test by the use of spring loaded test connectors and vacuum.
